Information, not advice

Leasolio explains how rental rules and calculations generally work. It isn't legal, tax or financial advice, and using it doesn't create an attorney-client or any other professional relationship. Before you act on a notice, a deposit deduction or an eviction step, check the current law where the unit is, or ask a landlord-tenant attorney there.

State and city law decide

Notice periods, deposit limits, late-fee caps, rent control and fair-housing rules differ between states and often between cities, and they change. Each page lists the places it covers and the date we checked them. A rule that isn't listed for your state hasn't been checked for it.

Templates and calculators

Letter and notice templates are starting points written by us. Some places require their own official form or a specific delivery method; the template pages say where we know of one. Calculators show their formula. Check every result against your lease before you send it to a tenant.

Taxes

Tax pages follow IRS publications as of the date shown. They don't cover every situation; a tax professional can apply them to yours.

No affiliation

Leasolio isn't affiliated with any government agency, court, the IRS, or any company it mentions. Product and company names belong to their owners and are used only to identify them.
